A few months ago Jason was asking all of our friends if they wanted to camp and see the eclipse with us in totality. I didn't understand why it was such a big deal or what 'totality' even meant but I figured a camping trip is always a good time :) Little did I know the eclipse would change something inside of me. Some say being in the line of totality can align your mind, body and spirit. When the moon covered the sun and the sky went dark, I experienced a sense of peace so deep, similar to a deep meditation. I like to think of August 21st as a new beginning within myself. The past few days I've been flooded with new ideas - everything seems clear. If you ever get a chance to see an eclipse in totality, I highly recommend it. We are planning to visit the next one in Brazil - who wants to come?!
We found a spot to pitch our tents in the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina. The park was completely filled and it was exciting to see license plates from all over the country.
We spent the early hours enjoying the reflection on the lake with our morning coffee.
How insane are these orbs? I use my 50mm lens everywhere and I love playing with light but I've never seen anything close to what I captured above.
My friend ellen preparing avocado sandwiches :)
Getting ready for the eclipse!!
Once totality hit, the lighting was the strangest I've ever seen. There was a halo spotlight in areas which illuminated faces but left the environment looking like a dark swamp. The eclipse photos haven't been edited to show you how different the park looked during totality.
The photo on the left was right before totality hit. The photo on the right is full totality.
